A Food Drive for Yurok Elders

The Elders Nutrition Program for Yurok elders delivers a hot meal (and a sack lunch for the next day) once a week to the elders’ homes. This food drive will enable them to leave a few nonperishable foods, toiletries and other needed supplies for them as well. The nearest town with a large grocery store, etc. is a 2 hour drive away. Please take a look at their wishlist and send what you can.   Please let me know what you are donating so I can keep a tally for them here. Thanks so much for supporting the elders on the Yurok Rez!

Needed/Donated as of 4/29/26:

By the way, these amounts do not reflect what is on their shelves, as the food gets distributed to the elders as it is donated in their once a week hot meal delivery. This is an ongoing need so I’ll set the numbers back to zero on the 15th of the month. These food donations help the elders have a little extra food on hand in their pantries. Thanks so much for supporting them everyone

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
