Do you crochet, knit, or sew? Many organizations and individuals on Pine Ridge Reservation would love to receive your hand-crafted items. You’ll find free patterns for many items here, but feel free to make whatever you love working on – everything you can think of to craft is certainly needed! Visit our FoPRR Pinterest board for more ideas.

If you belong to a group that quilts, crochets, knits or sews for charity (or if you are an individual who does so) and you would like to work on some projects for the reservations please contact me for suggestions as to what is currently needed.

SEW/QUILT

The following organizations can use your donation of hand-crafted items.

Click the links for information about the organization and its shipping address.  For donations to the Navajo Nation via Little Singer Community School, for cultural reasons, please don’t use any prints with owls, snakes, or coyotes. No such restrictions on donations to Pine Ridge or the Yurok Reservation.  Any colors and fibers are fine to use. If there are specific washing information on your items, please include a note.

 

Yer’ ‘wo-‘ol Women’s Shelter – This is a new domestic violence shelter for women and children on the Yurok Reservation. They need clothing of all sizes for women, babies/toddlers and young children. New socks/underwear, gently used clothing is fine. They also need baby things like burp cloths, bibs, sleep bags, baby bath towels, crib & play yard sheets, afghans for moms and children, quilts of all sizes for moms and children, bed linens, aprons for moms and kids, cloth napkins, winter hats, scarves, slippers, diaper bags, tote bags, drawstring bags (many of the moms and kids will arrive with nothing).  I don’t yet have a page up for the shelter so I’ll include their shipping address here.

First Families Now – this organization maintains a Clothes Closet for families in dire need all across the reservation.  They can use new (especially socks and undies) and/or gently used clothing sized for infants to elders and also welcome sewn/quilted/knitted/crocheted items such as sleepwear, quilts, afghans, lapghans, baby/toddler items, pillowcases, sheets (bed, crib, Pack ‘n Play sized), toys, dishcloths, etc.

Little Singer Community School – this school on the Navajo Nation needs sewn and/or knitted or crocheted seasonally appropriate clothing for babies, toddlers (layette items, baby blankets of all sizes), elementary school-age children and elders in the community.

Please Note: Due to the volume of donations shipped to the reservation FoPRR cannot verify delivery of your boxes. If you require confirmation of delivery, please purchase delivery confirmation from the post office or use your shipping service’s tracking system.

Please do not use Styrofoam packing material. New, large-size trash bags and flattened rolls of toilet paper serve well as padding and are helpful to our Friends on the rez.
