Friends of Pine Ridge,
We here at Wounded Knee District School would like to send our appreciation for all the wonderful fruit trees for our school orchard. This means a lot not only to our school but our community! Our hope is that these trees will bear fruit in a couple of years to provide our children and people with healthy food.
Our community is very rural with little to no access to fresh fruit or vegetables. These trees are a first step towards self sustainability for our children and community. They will learn the importance of nutrition while having access to the fresh fruits. We plan to begin a community garden this spring for these same reasons.
The trees came in a little late during a snow storm. Our facilities staff planted them for us as we had no school that entire week due to the storm. We were afraid they might die so wanted them planted as soon as possible. Our students studied and learned about the trees before their arrival. Now that they are planted they are assigned to take care of the trees.
Thanks again for your donations of the fruit trees.

Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation,
Thank you for the Mockingjay book donations! Everyone in the classroom is excited to start reading it.
Teaching reading is far more engaging to students when they are interested in the book we are reading. The best part is because of your efforts there are enough books for a entire class set. Thank you again for getting us these books!

Friends of Pine Ridge,
I would like to take this time to thank all of you for your generous contribution towards our Sewing drive! We have placed the items in one of our empty houses and are working to set them up for our first sewing night planned for tomorrow. We have plenty of items for our parents to partake in this sewing activity to create dance outfits for their children and many are excited to start!
This is only possible because of your hearts and the gift of giving that is evident in the smiles and excitement of both the students and parents.
Attached are some pictures of the items, I will be sending more pictures of the sewing night and activities.
Thank you!

Friends of Pine Ridge,
I want to send you all a huge Thank You from the bottom of my heart! We have been collecting the school supplies and placing in a small room and putting them together for the anticipated 1st day of school.
We had a blast passing out the back packs to all the students in the entire school! They were all so excited to receive them. I explained how all of you made this possible for them! They are so proud that they continue to keep track and take care of their back packs.
Thank you all once again for bringing smiles and happiness to our children with your generosity!

Friends of Pine Ridge,
I want to thank each and every one of you who contributed to our Facilities drive! This drive has allowed us to fix up the teacher houses that have been in such poor shape!
With your generous donations we were able to purchase and install the windows to replace the cracked and broken windows. We were able to install bathroom vanities where there were none. We were able to patch and paint walls. The houses are very beautiful! The new teachers are pleased and we are very happy.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of all of you. There is a new feeling in the air! It is reflected in the community as they can visually see the wonderful changes we have done with our school as well.
The paint we purchased has allowed for our classrooms, hallways, gym, doors, and entrance to have a whole new look. It looks wonderful! It truly is a privilege to have wonderful giving people such as yourselves to make this a reality; our students and staff are beaming!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I will be sending pics soon.

Dear Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation,
I want to send out a heartfelt Thank You to each and everyone of you for your generous donations! Our Facilities department have been working so hard fixing up the houses preparing them for move in by our teachers.
The donations have allowed for paining, sanding the original wooden floors, waxing them, replacing light fixtures, windows, doors, door knobs, vanities in bathrooms, sink fixtures, bath fixtures, cupboard handles, etc. The school is transforming nicely!
We are able to paint classrooms, hallways, and gym. The gym is almost complete. Everyone is working very hard to complete the painting as we already have staff in-service next week!
You all have made a world of difference not just in our school and campus, but in our community! Everyone has seen the dramatic changes and are commenting on the beautiful transformation. The morale in the community is spreading like wildfire! I have many parents calling asking about our upcoming school year and many are looking to transfer their children.
So excited–thank you so much everyone! You all have certainly touched the lives of a community all thought was forgotten.
