Thank You Letters from Kiyuksa O’Tipi Reintegration Center

January 15, 2014 by FoPRR

Chris & Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation:

I would like to give a well appreciative Thank You. The youth that were detained here received the gifts of books and hoodies. Extra books that were received were placed in the facilities library that was started last winter and has been a success for the youth to utilize here at the facility during their stay.

Any extra hoodies and clothing items will be utilized for the youth that are released to attend treatment. Sometimes the youth don’t have the necessary clothing they need when they leave from here to attend treatment and this will help the youth that are less fortunate.

Once again, thank you for your donations.

Dear Chris,

I am sending a big THANK YOU on behalf of all the juvenile detention boys and girls who are incarcerated here at the Kiyuksa O’Tipi Reintegration Center to all the wonderful people who have sent items such as toiletries, shower shoes, etc.

The boys and girls are very grateful and enjoyed the individual hygiene products, shower shoes and other items and are looking forward to the board games and sports equipment which are also needed.

Again I thank you and the Friends of the Pine Ridge Reservation for your drive to assist the youth here at the Kiyuksa O’Tipi Reintegration Center.

Sincerely,

Shirley Marshall

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
