Thank Yous from Oglala Lakota CASA

April 20, 2013 by FoPRR

April 10, 2013

Dear Chris and Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation,

We send this thank you for all the Easter books and goods that were sent for the children that we serve. Our advocate spent time on Easter day to deliver the Easter things out to the children. The books were really nice gifts for them to enjoy and will also enhance their reading and listening skills.

Please know that these were very much appreciated by the Oglala Lakota CASA program and the children, many of whom are in foster or group/residential homes across the state.

Sincerely,

Arlana Bettelyoun

To Friends of Pine Ridge,

This letter is presented on behalf of the Oglala Lakota Court Appointed Special Advocates Program (OL-CASA), and the children of the Oglala Lakota Nation, Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Due to no fault of their own, the children who are appointed to our program have experienced compounded trauma, neglect and abuse. The services provided to these children directly impacts their sense of goodness and hope in the world around them.

We sincerely extend our warmest gratitude and sincere appreciation for the Christmas gifts and heartfelt contributions you have presented. Please know that your contributions absolutely make a difference in the lives of the children we serve.

Some of you have chosen to provide a monetary donation and this is greatly appreciated as well. The monetary donations are utilized to provide necessities for the children, such as provide a meal for them while they are waiting for a forensic interview, or medical/dental examinations.

Please know that your contributions are highly valued here and your continued support is very beneficial and welcomed.

Lila Wopila Tanka Iciciya Pelo (We are truly grateful to you).

Sincerely,

Arlana Bettelyoun
Director
OL-CASA

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
