A Thank You Letter from Wounded Knee District School

May 3, 2016 by FoPRR

Here’s a thank you letter I received yesterday for the Summer Fun donation drive we just completed for Wounded Knee District School:

May 2, 2016

Friends of Pine Ridge,

I would like to send out a huge Thank you to each and every one of you! We have received all the wonderful camping items. We are so excited and prepared for our outdoor camping activities with the children!

These items give us opportunity to provide educational outdoor science activities such as geology, rock formation, water cycle, fossil hunting and identification. The items give us the tools needed to provide such enrichment learning for our students.

Thank you all soooo much. We are excited and feel prepared for these!

Pila Miya ye,
(Thank you)

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
