Thank Yous from Oglala Lakota CASA

Good day to you all,

I am taking this opportunity to send a really big “Thank You” to those of you who have donated school bags and school supplies.

The children on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation have been through some challenging times, recovering from the long snowy winter we had and many experiencing loss in their families. The shipments have arrived with all the bags and supplies. Getting them delivered allows us quality contact with the children and the ability to assess the quality of life in the homes in which they are living.

I also want to extend gratitude to those of you who sent monetary donations to help with expenses. This is of great help! So much of a helping hand in getting our services carried through. You may not see the fruition of our service delivery to the children. However, your monetary donations contribute to the Oglala Lakota CASA program assisting in the needs of the children who are, at no fault of their own, in the system. Many of these children have been traumatized by sexual and physical abuse.

Our service delivery to them is at times imminent. We are extensively trained to help and advocate for them. Your donation helps with service delivery and items they may be in need of.

Your contributions deeply impact the lives of our children and does provide a sense of hope and encouragement that someone does care.

Hello to you all,

The Oglala Lakota CASA Program is putting this out there as a huge (Wopila)thank you to all of you who have donated! The monetary donations you have made is awesome, they help us provide some funds where needed as well as take care of some emergencies that arise!

The newly sent lawnmower will be a great asset to have at the office(we now will utilize this and can keep up the grounds at OLCASA) I also want to thank the family who brought gift cards and monetary donations too!

The supplies sent to OLCASA are also a good thing so we continue to be able to move forth in our work as you all help us by providing all these necessities.

Again, a huge THANK YOU to you all! You are very instrumental and valuable as we are able to keep moving and providing quality advocacy to the Children who are in the system at no fault of their own.

Mitakuye Oyasin (we are all related)

Sincerely,

Arlana Bettelyoun

Good day to you all,

I am taking this opportunity to send a really big “Thank You” to those of you who have donated Christmas gifts and supplies to host a Holiday party! The weather on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation has been such a huge challenge. Extreme high winds with snow, ice and freezing temperatures have created transportation challenges as well as living conditions for the Children on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

We had to reschedule and have our Holiday Party on December 30th, 2014. It turned out well with food and presents to be shared! Larry (our Advocate/Child Abuse Investigations Specialist) has been very busy with his four wheel drive delivering gifts and goodies to the children and families who are out in remote areas! This has also allowed quality contact visits with the children.

I want to also extend gratitude to those of you who sent monetary donations to help with expenses. This is of great help!

You contributions deeply impact the lives of our children.

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
