Dear Friends of Pine Ridge,

I am a little late in extending our appreciation for the wonderful Christmas gifts and monetary donations for the children and families served by Lakota Oyate Wakanyeja Owicakiyapi – LOWO Inc. On behalf of our staff, we extend our gratitude for your love, care and concern for our children!

We had the most amazing Christmas, it was awesome! We put the gifts in our large conference area and the entire room was filled. LOWO serves approximately 250 – 300 children at any given time. Each child received one large and one small gift. The gifts were truly a blessing to many children whose families suffer poverty effects. I think about the time, resources and energy it takes to select a gift and to send it by mail and realize there are so many good people who care! Also, this winter has been very challenging with arctic cold weather and snowstorms so the monetary donations are greatly appreciated!

In addition, we thank Chris for her work in coordinating the massive effort it takes to bring attention to the needs of our children and families. She is a truly wonderful resource to LOWO. Thank you, Chris. Prayers and Blessing to all!

Most Sincerely,

Emily Iron Cloud-Koenen

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
