Hi Chris & Friends of Pine Ridge,

We, at LOWO, would like to express our gratitude on behalf of our Lakota children who received a gift of an Easter Basket, toys and other items. We continue to be amazed at the level of generosity displayed by the many donors who contributed to the Easter Drive.

Easter Day was a beautiful day for many children who may not have otherwise received a gift. Blessings to you and your families for your contributions! Thank you!!

Sincerely,

Emily Iron Cloud-Koenen, Executive Director

Chris/Friends of Pine Ridge

Dear Chris,

This past Christmas season your generous donors provided 382 Christmas gifts to our children. The happiness this brings is priceless. Many children would not experience the spirit of Christmas were it not for these gifts. We are so very grateful for the contribution of love, time and monetary resources by our caring donors. Please extend our appreciation for all that they do to ensure that Lakota children receive a gift.

Also, Chris, thank you for all the networking you do to spread the word about our LOWO agency. This year we received more donations than in previous years. Your work in facilitating drives for Baby Showers, Easter, School Supplies, Clothing and Emergency Funds for utilities for families is very important to our people. I cannot say enough about how much we appreciate you also! May Tunkasila (Great Spirit) grant you good health, happiness and well-being. Mitakuye Oyasin (For all my relatives)!

Most sincerely,

Emily Iron Cloud-Koenen

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
