Anpetu Wahste (Good Day!)

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for your kind donations of the wonderful books during the 2012 holiday season.

It is due to the combined contributions of individuals throughout the country such as you that the children of the OLC Head Start and Early Head Start program had a memorable day!

Lila Pilamaya (Thank You) on behalf of the OLC Head Start and Early Head Start staff and wakanyeja (children) of the program.

With warm regards,

Michelle Yankton
Early Head Start/Head Start Director

Dear Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation:

Anpetu Washte (Good Day)!

Pilamaye (thank you) on behalf of the Oglala Lakota College EHS/Head Start staff and administration for your donations, and especially on behalf of the children and families.

Your generosity has made it possible for our students to have the necessary tools to develop their learning abilities. We believe that community change must incorporate all members of society, starting with our very young. We provide a high quality teaching, training and support to teachers, parents, caregivers and grandparents, as well as a safe environment for our future Lakota leaders in keeping with the college’s vision of wolakolkiciyape (learning Lakota ways of life in community).

Once again, pilamaye (thank you) on behalf of OLC’s EHS/Head Start students.

With warm regards,

Michelle Yankton
EHS/Head Start Director
Oglala Lakota College

I would like to thank you and the Friends of the Pine Ridge Reservation for providing our program children with the Baby Shower gifts.

Our children had a memorable and unforgettable Christmas because of your most gracious donations.

As a part of the OLC Head Start Program as a parent and staff member, I appreciate the help that you offer programs like ours and many others in South Dakota.

I will always remember that there are many warm hearts within your organization to share memories with and always keep in our prayers.

Thank you,

Jackie Randall
Head Start Parent/Staff member

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
