Dear Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation:

Thanks you for all the wonderful supplies for our Valentine’s Party! The children have been working joyfully on cards for their parents, grandparents and friends. Each day we decorate the classroom a bit more so the excitement is building.

Thank you for your generosity!

Our whole school really wants to thank our Friends of Pine Ridge who sent the children such wonderful and WARM things. You might have heard that last week we had days with the wind chill at -35 and that was during the day.

You are all so thoughtful and generous, it really warmed everyones hearts to know that you all care about the children.

We really appreciate your kindness; blessings on you all!

Dear Friends of Pine Ridge,

I just want to thank you for all the wonderful books and warm slippers that you have recently sent us. Also, those extra special surprise boxes that contain unexpected treats and gifts. The children talk about the people who send them things as if they all know you. Somehow they just know you are kind hearted people and good friends.

The warm hand knitted hats are treasured by them, they each got their own one of a kind hat and scarf. The gifts you send keep us warm in many ways.

Thank you,

Greetings!

I really want to thank everybody for all the wonderful fantastic donations. Our school year is starting out very slowly but steadily. Unfortunately, our school bus was in an accident before school started and that really limits how many children can get to the school. The good part is that they are ready and waiting and will come as soon as we solve our bus dilemma.

It’s been so inspiring to open the boxes and see so many wonderful gifts, the children enjoy opening them and using all the great supplies. The books are especially welcomed and I know we will enjoy reading them again and again when we are inside so much this winter.

Blessing on you and thank you,

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
