Friends of Pine Ridge,

Hello! We here at Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary in Porcupine, South Dakota would like to send all who donated towards our Turkey bingo a big thank you!!!

It was only possible to have this community event in our district because of your generous help. Thank you very much!!!

Hope your Thanksgiving went well. We just returned today from our Thanksgiving break. We had to reschedule the Turkey Bingo from Friday, Nov. 14th to the following Wednesday, Nov. 19th because of a winter storm we had. It went very well, and the community really enjoyed the prizes and turkey baskets. There was $598.46 made from the bingo.

Thanks again for all your support in making this happen! This bingo brought together the parents, families, and community members out to enjoy an evening of fun.

Wopila Tanka!! (A big thank you)

Alice Phelps, Principal

Dear Friends of Pine Ridge,

Thank you so much for all the supplies and gifts for our upcoming Kindergarten Celebration in May. Everything we need has arrived in good condition. The cups, plates and napkins will go right along with our springs songs for the program. The food items are greatly appreciated. We even received some cute ladybug magnets.

The girls will love the Sonya Pet Salons and the boys are going to enjoy playing with the Gears. Thanks to everyone of you that donated these items that will make our party a very special day. Pilamiya! (Lakota word for Thank You!)

Sincerely,

Robin Sager

Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people — appalling, and largely ignored — compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson.
