2008 Children's Christmas Gifts for CangleskaIn addition to the many children that are living in the battered women's shelter with their mothers at Christmastime, Cangleska serves many hundreds more in their outreach families so we start working on this drive early in the year. Below is a list of our goals and some gift suggestions for those of you who need ideas for Christmas gifts to donate to the children, who range in age from newborn to 18.Please send new toys and books only, rather than clothing, for the children, with the exception of infants--who need clothing, formula and disposable diapers--and older teens who can use new winter coats, hoodies, and other clothing in large sizes. Also, many children are in dire need of athletic style shoes, in toddler through adult sizes, so your donations of new shoes would be very appreciated. So I can keep track for the shelter, please let me know how many gifts you are sending and for what sex and age. No need to itemize the exact items, just let me know the sex and age category your gifts will cover, e.g. "3 gifts for 4-6 yr. old boys," or "2 gifts for 11-14 yr. old girls." I will update this page daily so what you see here will be an accurate reflection of what has been donated and what is still needed. If your toy doesn't list an age range, please give me your best guess. Also, for an accurate count, group your gifts if you are sending small items; if you are sending a set of 10 matchbox cars, please count that as one gift, not 10. Please be on the lookout for those local sales and stash the gifts in your closets or you are welcome to order online and ship directly to the shelter, but since storage is an issue at present, please do not ship any Christmas gifts to Cangleska until after October 1st. To go along with this drive, we are also seeking Christmas gift wrapping supplies for the shelter staff who will spent countless hours sorting, wrapping and delivering your gifts. Gift wrap, tags, ribbon, bows, gift bags, gift boxes, tissue paper, tape, small Christmas cards and any other wrapping supplies are needed, in any amount. When you ship your donations to the shelter, please include a note in your box (or on your gift card if it is an online purchase) that your donation is intended for use as a Christmas gift. If you'd like to send along a gift for one of the moms, please feel free to do so, but again, let the shelter staff know via a note, so they know to separate your donation from their general donations to the shelter and store it away for Christmas.
