Lakota Oyate Wakanyeja Owicakiyapi, Inc. (LOWO)

Lakota Oyate Wakanyeja Owicakiyapi, Inc. (LOWO) - Oglala Lakota Integrated Tribal Child and Family Services Agency is a newly-chartered tribal child welfare agency on the Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota. LOWO is not a 501(c)(3) charity at this time.

The agency administers child and family services with an emphasis on abused and neglected children, including support services such as foster care placement, foster parent training and retention, support and maintenance, parenting training, family preservation and reunification services.

LOWO functions as an umbrella agency to coordinate direct services among existing child and family service programs and agencies on the reservation. The agency is forecasting providing case management services to several hundred children in its first few years.

LOWO supports comprehensive culturally appropriate services that meet the basic needs of Lakota families, incorporating Lakota cultural beliefs, philosophy, traditions and ceremonies as an important basis for helping children and families strengthen their identity as tribal people.

To help LOWO support the children and families on Pine Ridge Reservation, please consider donating any of the items listed below.

Donation suggestions (send new items only please):

• Backpacks, duffel bags, sports bags, diaper bags, drawstring bags

• Blank journals

• Books on the following topics: childcare, parenting, pregnancy, childbirth

• Clothing and winter wear for newborn through 18 yrs. old (with a special need for ages 2-5)

• Hairbrushes, combs, hair accessories

• Kids print pillowcases

• Scrapbook supplies for Life Books

• School supplies

• Shoes, flip-flops, sandals, slippers, winter boots

• Socks, underwear, and sleepwear for newborn through 18 yrs. old

• Toiletries: shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene, dental, and hair products, etc., travel sized and full sized

• Toys, puzzles, board games, stuffed animals, dolls for all ages

FoPRR cannot verify delivery of your boxes. When shipping your donations U.S. Mail, please purchase delivery confirmation, or use your shipping service's tracking system.

Do not use Styrofoam for packing materials. Large size trash bags serve well as padding and are reusable. Remember, if you are sending anything liquid please double wrap it and seal well in a plastic bag.
