Re-Member

Re-Member is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with an office and dormitories on Pine Ridge Reservation that house up to 60 people. They welcome volunteers to visit and work on various projects, one of which is the manufacture, transportation and placement of bunk beds for the children of Pine Ridge Reservation who have none. Re-Member volunteers sand and stain the bed components, then set them up in homes. Children will often sleep on a bed that night for the first time in their lives.

With so little housing available on the reservation and with the overcrowded living conditions and poverty there are many problems with the structures themselves.

In addition to their beds efforts, Re-Member has started a home rehabilitation project. The children who have received beds from Re-Member are now sleeping in their very own beds, but they are living in homes with missing doors and windows, holes in the floors and walls, and black mold growing between and on the walls, which in turn exacerbates many health problems.

Please read here for more information on the black mold situation on the reservation.

Re-Member volunteers also help with the upkeep of several cemeteries and parks on the reservation and at the end of each of Re-Member's trips the volunteers prepare a meal for as many as 100 people on the reservation who have become friends and acquaintances.

Please contact Re-Member toll free at 877 205-2105 for further information about volunteering. You can also visit their website at www.re-member.org
